ARTIST BIO
Shelley-Anne Graham (b.1969) – NHDip FA
Fine Artist, PE, South Africa.
Somewhere between the disciplines of decor & fine art you will find Shelley’s artwork. She creates eclectically designing paintings, surface pattern & cushions.
An art tutor for most of her life [SA & UK], Shelley only picked up her paintbrush full-time in 2016 when, in a few devastating minutes, she was left widowed with two young boys in tow. Shelley had to reframe her thought patterns in order to cope. She chose beauty above destruction. Her art echoes this process.
In her work, Shelley uses the feminine form, African patterns and a mixed bag of technology & traditional techniques to achieve her goals.
Shelley’s female-focus paintings hope to point you to the beautiful in life. One black and white portrait at a time.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My story, your story, so very different, yet linked by our mortality. Our time here, brief. Life offers us a moment to find our wings, a second to learn to fly and [if we are lucky] a few minutes to say goodbye.
My work is synonymous with a lone female figure. She symbolises the fiercely patterned path of hope, beauty & living deeply. That, despite all, the sun will always rise, be it in this life or the next.
Winged creatures of time fleetingly flutter into my black and white paintings. They urge you to use moments with care.
Use them, as if there were no tomorrow.
Because, perhaps, there simply isn’t.
